MOORPARK, Calif. – Kavlico, a global business unit of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST), has recently developed a single engine thrust control device which allows pilots to set the aircraft’s multiple power levels. The units’ design meets the small envelope, minimum weight, and high reliability demanded by today’s highly competitive aerospace industry.
When the pilot moves the thrust control lever, the internal triplex Rotary Variable Differential Transformer (RVDT) provides redundant signals to the FADEC control to increase or decrease the power level. Detents are provided for take-off, idle, and maximum continuous cruise.
This highly reliable and durable device makes extensive use of lightweight materials for both the body and the handle. Other significant features include adjustable friction, simple 4-screw mounting permitting rapid line replacement, and a 70,000 minimum flight hours MTBF.
A full travel seal insures that foreign object debris is kept out of the thrust control mechanism. This easy-to-use device utilizes a momentary switch located in the grip. The lever incorporates a gear drive, while an anti-backlash gear on the triplex RVDT turns the RVDT shaft with low backlash.
The compact device weighs 1.8lbs maximum and has been designed to meet FAR Part 25 and RTCA-160.
