Newall Introduces New Generation of DRO Encoder

Columbus, Ohio – Newall, a global business unit of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST), has just introduced a new second generation linear encoder; the Spherosyn 2G. Designed for the conventional machine tool market, the Spherosyn 2G is quicker to install, requires no maintenance and comes with a five year warranty on the encoder and a lifetime warranty on the scales.

Newall’s linear encoder and scales technology is unique and provides consistent accuracy even under the harshest working environments. The new Spherosyn 2G encoder has completely new electronics and offers a significantly reduced total cost of ownership compared to its predecessor. The new internals enable more accurate alignment, which makes installation easier and 30–50% quicker than traditional technologies such as glass and magnetic tape.

With all the electronics encased in a new tough metal reader head, the Spherosyn 2G encoder and stainless steel scales require no maintenance whatsoever. The bushing technology and no mechanical wear characteristics mean it is extremely durable and reliable, giving minimal machine downtime.

Unlike glass scales which require regular cleaning and are susceptible to scratches or breaks, Newall’s robust stainless steel scales do not suffer from contamination problems and therefore don’t have to been cleaned or replaced. This alone can save thousands of pounds a year in machine shop overheads.

This latest addition to the Newall range is the only encoder on the market to offer a five year warranty and Newall’s scales now carry a lifetime guarantee such is the company’s confidence in the reliability of their product.

The Spherosyn 2G has the same foot print as the older Spherosyn and the same signal. This makes the 2G compatible with the many thousands of the older Spherosyn encoders in the field and any of the Newall DRO displays.
