Low Cost Gyro Incorporates a MEMS Based Single Axis Angular Rate Sensor

Walnut Creek, CA – Systron Donner Inertial (SDI), a company of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST) has developed a low cost gyro; the LCG50, which incorporates a MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) single axis angular rate sensor on a small PC board. The LCG50 Gyro is ideally suited for embedded applications where mounting versatility is required such as in guidance and control systems, robotics, flight testing, short term navigation, and vehicle instrumentation.

The high reliability LCG50 is a complete unit requiring only a DC voltage input to measure angular rate while providing an analog voltage output along with a wide bandwidth. The economical, environmentally robust sensor exhibits performance characteristics that match more expensive instrument grade rate sensors.

Additional features include a wide operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C, low power consumption, a fast start-up time of <2 sec typical, integral temperature sensor output, and a compact design with a weight of <0.4 oz. or 12 grams.
